Volunteers needed for season-ending auction party

In just one month, Oxford's online auction with its inviting and eclectic range of offerings, will open. But before we get in bidding wars over concert tickets, a tour of Semifreddis, or a hike in Tilden with Ms. Martin, Ms. Vines and her huskies, and before we are hanging out with our friends (and making new friends) while listening to live music, eating tacos, and sipping cocktails at the evening auction party, everyone in the Oxford community has the opportunity to contribute to making the Toast to Oxford a success.

But first, for those who are new to Oxford, or need a refresher: The Toast to Oxford is a two week long online auction that will culminate in an adults-only party on Saturday, March 22. The auction is a fun and vital PTA fundraiser that raises in the ballpark of $25K--money that goes toward ensuring that our kids and teachers receive the support they need and the quality of school we have come to expect. But to be clear, the party, where the auction ends, isn't only about fundraising. It is also intended to be a community builder where parents, caregivers, teachers, and staff can come together, whether or not they make a monetary donation, for a fun night out.

The opportunities for volunteering for this event are vast. Already there is a small but mighty group of volunteers working to solicit businesses for donations for the auction, setting up and managing the website, and planning the party. Anyone with any interest in the above is welcome and encouraged to join the team, but there are other ways people can contribute. Those opportunities include asking a business you love to donate, contributing a donation of your own (past donations have included a photo session, architectural advice, and baking a cake), or signing up to host a community event (rock climbing, daisy chain making and snacks, a wine and cheese party, sushi making, a movie night, etc) which Oxford community members pay to attend. This year, we are trying something new and asking each class to put together a class basket or item for the auction, so please keep your eye out for a message with more details from your classroom coordinator, and put your thinking caps on for a creative and fun contribution.

There are also many volunteer opportunities beyond donations. Perhaps you are good at logistics, and could help manage and distribute auction winnings, or arrange the childcare that will be offered during the party. Or maybe you have an artistic eye and can help the party planning team decorate. Perhaps you are willing to pick up a gift certificate, or deliver a bag of ice for the party. No matter your bandwidth or interests, we hope that you can think of a way to contribute or be willing to raise your hand when a volunteer request is made.
